The Open Window
The window opens before the street is fully awake.
Someone pushes the shutters back, leaves them there for an hour, and disappears inside again.

Morning light catches the same worn places every day.
The Same Morning, Again
For a while, nothing else happens.
The window remains open above the empty street while the bakery unlocks its door and someone cycles slowly towards the square. A radio plays somewhere inside the apartment, faint enough to disappear beneath the sound of pigeons landing on the roof opposite.
No one looks up.
The open window belongs to the morning as naturally as the light reaching the pavement below.
An hour later, a striped towel hangs over the sill to dry. A watering can appears beside a row of geraniums. Someone leans out for a moment to shake crumbs from a tablecloth before disappearing back into the kitchen.
The window never asks to be noticed.
It simply stays open long enough to become familiar.
Return the following day and little has changed. The shutters open at almost the same hour. The same curtain catches the breeze. The flower pots have been turned slightly towards the sun. Somewhere inside, breakfast is ending while the street is only just beginning.
After a few mornings, you stop looking for the buildings.
You begin looking for the windows that are already open.
Some are opened wide. Others only enough to let the air inside. A lace curtain moves gently in one apartment, while another window is framed by basil growing in chipped terracotta pots. Each one offers only the smallest glimpse before becoming quiet again.
None of these moments lasts more than a minute.
Yet together, they begin to feel as familiar as the streets themselves.
Studio Vela Reflection
Some streets wake up one window at a time.
Tomorrow morning, one of those windows will open again before most people have left home. The curtain will move, someone will pause for a moment behind the glass, and the shutters will remain folded back until the day grows warmer.
The street will never announce that the day has begun.
The open window always does.
